 Mallorca 2016

National Selection Conference

 National Session

The European Youth Parliament Spain organises several Regional Sessions and one National Session throughout the academic year. The National Selection Conference gathers around 80 participants from all over Spain who have been selected at a Regional Session. In this conference, some of the delegates are selected as individuals or schools to attend an international event and, therefore, become members of the organisation.

This five-day session is a simulation in small-scale of an International Sessions. The delegates participate in the three core activities of the European Youth Parliament: Teambuilding, Committee Work and General Assembly, as well as in other European-related events.

The selection process requires some jury members. Three experienced members of the organisation select the future members of the European Youth Parliament following this criteria:

  • Knowledge of the committee’s topic, as well as general knowledge of Europe which is important in any debate

  • Use of English, the main language of all EYP sessions

  • Motivation and willingness to participate in every aspect of the session

  • Cooperation within the team and respect for the opinions of other delegates

 Palma de Mallorca

The 11th National Selection Conference of the European Youth Parliament Spain will take place in Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic Islands.

Palma was founded as a Roman camp by 123 BC, and since then it has been conquered by several nations and religious movements. Romans, Byzantines, Muslims and Christians have been walking around its geography and setting entire villages while building gorgeous edifications on them. Also, magnificent architects and artists such as Antoni Gaudí have worked on the design and posterior reforms of the Cathedral (La Seu) and other buildings in the Old City of Palma.

By organising the session in Palma, the European Youth Parliament Spain aims to expand this organisation through the territory of the Balearic Islands. Furthermore, our wish is to give the island some fresh air regarding academic, cultural and European issues that might be hidden behind the touristic and ludic part of Mallorca. We believe in its potential as a referent in this areas and we aim to explode them to the most during our session and its sequels: the incorporation of the region into the EYP Spain map. Mallorca deserves to be highlighted for its historical, cultural and educational merits as well as it is for its wonderful landscapes and attractive beaches, and we wnat to give it an opportunity.
